The True Jacqueline - Instead

Although they’ve been around for the past couple of years it’s nice to see local band The True Jacqueline gaining in popularity in the Northampton music scene. Poppy shoegaze at its finest. Give this song a listen. It’s fun and peppy and reminiscent of the music I was listening to in high school…

Mural in Northampton, MA by Mark Bode

I miss when Mark, Molly, and Zara lived in Florence… Their house was decked out in Mark and Vaughn Bode originals. It was fan-fucking-tastic!

Turn It Up!

This record store was one of my haunts during my formative years. It still exists. It still has an impossibly awesometown collection of used cds for cheap. It still has the sticker on the wall that I placed on my 17th birthday.

Northampton Wools (formerly Pleasant St. Video)

As much as I really like this picture I cannot find it in me to ‘heart’ it… I’m still bitter over the loss of Pleasant St. Video and find it an absolute TRAVESTY that Northampton Wools has moved into the space.

Once In A While You Get To Experience A Once In A Lifetime Opportunity…

My father called me this afternoon. Northampton’s Sierra Grille had a keg of Stone Brewery’s ‘Espresso Nut Brown Stout’ and was going to tap it at 3pm. My father wondered if I was interested in partaking…

Of course I was!

Most of you might be wondering why this was something I would consider a once in a lifetime opportunity.

You see, Stone has never brewed this beer before. This singular keg was the ONLY ONE IN EXISTENCE. Period.

From a local news source:

O’Brien said the two Stone brewers that made this specialty brew have both been to his restaurant and liked it so much that they wanted to give the venue a special treat for it’s customers to enjoy

Occasionally I like me some beer and this super coffee stout did not disappoint! In fact, it was so popular that I have been told that the keg kicked a little before 8pm. They were selling, on average, 20 pints an hour of this special brew!

I only wish that I could have shared the experience with all of you! Hopefully someday they will brew this stout en masse and everyone will be able to try it. It’s worth the cost of admission.

More on Jeff Mangum in Northampton

Looking at his other tourdates ticket price should fall in the $25-$35 range which isn’t bad for seeing him in a venue which holds a max of 1600 people. I just wish I knew when tickets went on sale…

Did I mention Holy Fucking Shit!?!?!?!?!?!

HOLY SHIT!!!!

Jeff Mangum is playing the Academy of Music in Northampton 4 days before my birthday!!!!

Today was the last day to eat at local culinary staple, Jakes. Rumor has it that it will become a Mexican restaurant in the near future.
I brought Veronica here a few months ago. It was no-frills dining at its best…
Northampton will miss you Jakes!

The Number 1 Reason That I Miss Working For IHEG

The Iron Horse Entertainment Group is the local conglomerate of music venues. Up until September of 2009 I was one of their employees… As an employee I got to meet quite a few awesome musicians (David Byrne, James Taylor, The Avett Brothers, Tragedy: The All-Metal Tribute To The Bee-Gees, etc.) and always had access to every show…for free.

They recently announced a benefit show at The Calvin Theater which goes on sale tomorrow: Dinosaur Jr. performing Bug in it’s entirety with Henry Rollins, Thurston Moore (from Sonic Youth), and The Warblers as the opening acts.

Granted, it’s only $25 but I used to get in FOR FREE!

Plus, as part of the hospitality crew, I often got to meet and interact with these artists…

I WANT TO HANG OUT WITH HENRY ROLLINS, J MASCIS, and THURSTON MOORE!!!!!!!

World’s Greatest Dad - Jaqueline

WGD are playing a party at my house in a few weeks. They are one of my favorite of the local bands. This song makes me happy. Give it a listen…

Friday in Northampton, there’s nothing like it.

I miss when they actually turned on the fountain…. those were the days.

It’s kind of a shame that they are redesigning this particular installation.
